These marble coasters are hand made by me using my watercolour illustrations and natural tumbled marble. Size is roughly 10cm x 10cm.
I always start with pencil and paper, and watercolour is the painting medium I use to create artwork for these coasters. I then clean the stone and transfer the artwork onto it. At this stage I may redo the painting because I will only use the artwork if they look good on the stone as well. Since the stone is natural and contains naturally occurring imperfections, I try to incorporate them into the artwork if applicable. Thinking of the coasters as mini contemporary paintings, I like to optimise the composition, colour and shape in each one of them. No two coasters are the same.
The final steps of the process include sanding(therefore the distressed look on some coasters) and sealing to protect the image. I apply full cork back to the bottom to ensure that they are safe for your surfaces. Wipe clean with a damp cloth, the coasters are not dishwasher safe due to the handmade nature.
I certainly have a lot of fun making these stone coasters, and I adore the end result so much. I hope that they bring a smile to your face, just like what they do to me. Choose arts and be happy.
